It is Christ who consecrates our union with Him in Baptism. Thus it is Christ who designed the most appropriate nourishment of the baptismal marital union between God and a human. The marital nourishment with Christ is also marital renewal just as much as the first marital consummation. On our first baptismal marriage with the LORD, we, our parents, relatives, mentors, sponsors, and the family members prepare the feast to nourish and celebrate the new marital birth. In my case, judging from the professional photos of my baptismal celebration, my parents had a lavish celebration for my Baptism that resembles the celebration of my parents' wedding feast. On the other hand, the baptismal celebration of Christ at the Jordan river was as Divine as His Crucifixion as stated in Matthew 3:16-17,
After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
The Baptism of Christ was witnessed by God the Father Persona, the Holy Spirit Persona, archangels, angels, and a crowd of followers. The heavens opened; lightning illuminated Christ announcing to the world the fulfillment of the prophecy foretold by Isaiah in Isaiah 42:1, “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen One in whom My Soul delights.” Baptism is our first consummated delightful marital union with God. The importance of Baptism is told in all four New Testament Gospels to further draw our attention to this incredible marital gift of grace.
Another important note is that immediately after Christ's Baptism, after hearing the voice of God, Saint Mark listed Christ’s seventy-seven genealogical fathers ending in Mark 1:38, “The son of Adam, the son of God.” Therefore, Baptism by Water and Holy Spirit consecrated by the priests who are validly authorized in the persona of Christ, is a family event announcing a new birth in the family lineage of God. I believe it is important to seek receiving the Sacraments that Christ gifts us directly from Christ, and from those authorized to be the in the person of Christ. Because, the Sacraments are designed by God and must be given by Christ to unite the received to the One (Catholic) Holy (be Perfect) Apostolic (Authority directly from Christ to bind and loose and hold the Keys of heaven and earth) Family (one genealogical body of believers forming Christ's established Church) with roots uniting the baptized member to Saints, angels and God just as Saint Mark emphasized when speaking Christ's family genealogy. However, Christ can also choose to speak directly to His followers outside His normal established way to offer His graces.
I want to point out that the Holy Spirit who is God is the third persona of God and is God. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit unite inseparably in one God; each is a separate persona and at the same time One God. Understanding how we are made in three different personae, yet made as one complete person, would help us to get a glimpse and partial understanding of the Creator as one with three Personae. “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness'” (Genesis 1:26). We are called to love God with our complete person. We are instructed, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37 and Deuteronomy 6:5).
Our one complete person consists of three different personae, yet is still one complete person. Because we are human, each of our three personae has limited abilities. However, God is Perfect; God is the Creator and is limitless; thus each of His three Personae differ, and His Personae are limitless in the One limitless God. We are called to love God with our total self – to love God with our three separate personae that resemble the Creator's three Personae, yet our three personae unite in one complete person. Therefore, when we are Baptized, just like Christ, we would have the Holy Spirit who is God united in us and remain in us as stated in John 1:33, “The Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.”
After our grand marital birth in Baptism, we should nourish our relationship with our Spouse in fasting and praying just as Christ did. Note that after Christ's Baptism, angels remained with Him and He acted as a human and with our human abilities, to show us how we can and should nourish our baptismal marital union with God. After Christ’s marital Baptism, He withdrew immediately to the wilderness to be alone with the God and angels as stated in Mark 1:12-13,
Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go out into the wilderness. And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him.
Anytime we have God united in us, we have angels ministering to God and ministering to whomever is united with God. In this baptized marital union with God, we have angels ministering to our union with God.
We are encouraged to daily pray, fast, read the words of God and imitate Christ. Whatever we humans do to nourish our baptismal union with God is important but will always be lacking. God's words of “Let there be” are life-giving, but regardless of the frequency we pray them, the prayers do not give us the power to create heaven or earth. Satan actually quoted the Scripture when he tempted Christ and also when he tempted Eve. Although Satan knows the Scripture very well, that cannot make Satan holy or perfect. Some people read the Scripture and interpret it to say that Christ is a human and not God; others understand that Christ is God. One is interpreting falsely; another interprets the same Scriptural passages correctly. The point is that our baptismal marriage requires more than prayers, reading about God, fasting, and imitating Christ. Our divine Baptism requires Divine nourishment to tend to the Divine relationship. Therefore, beside all that we do to nourish our union with the Creator, we need Divine nourishment gifted in grace from God. The Apostles who imitated Christ and witnessed Him perform miracles first hand, had a chance to imitate what He taught them when the people brought them a man possessed with demons. Certainly, the Apostles prayed for the possessed man as a group and repeated the words of the Holy Scriptures calling God and commanding the demonic spirit to depart, but they could not do it as their faith was not strong enough. Christ later blessed Peter for his strong faith, pointing out that God spoke in Peter's mouth and Christ gave Peter the keys of heaven and earth. Yet again, even after God spoke in Peter's mouth and even after Peter received Christ’s Blessing and the keys of heaven and earth, Peter again weakened and denied Christ three times. The point is that one can pray the words of Christ “Let there be” to expel demons and heal the sick; but it is not the same as when Christ Himself is speaking these words, “Let there be.”
